In a case of interesting timing, here is a very brief teaser video from Samsung for the Nexus Prime announcement:
...and here is a still frame of the handset itself (full size image here):
What you can see is a repeat of the curved screen design language of the Nexus S, but improved here by what appears to be a rather svelte waistline. As to what those three buttons/dots on the side are, I have no idea, but their position is where a camera shutter key would normally reside... Let the speculation begin!
I don't know about anyone else, but the still image cranks my gadget lust up to 11. How about you? In particular, if you're an iOS fan with the taste of ashes in your mouth following the iPhone 4S announcement earlier today, does this turn your head?
Let us know in the comments below, especially if you've got any good theories on what those three metallic buttons are for!

I'm just curious to see what that wacky curved screen is like to use.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, if its anything like the Nexus S I've played with briefly it should be quite nice!
ReplyDeleteOne thing that always seems to go by the wayside with most handset reviews is sound quality from the 3.5mm socket. If I could find a phone that has the same audio quality (DAC quality) as my ancient Cowon D2, I'd be sold!! :-)
ReplyDeleteBTW, apparently I posted this comment at 03:05am 5th October. Is there something I need to change with my timezone settings, or is it related to the blogger comment system? ;-)
Probably the handset closest to that would be the Galaxy S with Voodoo Sound (excellent SQ). I'll definitely pass comment on the SQ when I do my review, but I don't have the audio gear needed to do objective tests (not yet anyway, will look to Supercurio for that information when the time comes).
ReplyDeleteThe comment thing must be a Blogger thing I guess.
Thanks!! I look forward to "hearing" what you think. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy reference cans have always been the trustworthy Sennheiser HD280pro's - http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=990
Wink wink, nudge nudge.... just jokin' ;-)
I don't know about you, but that image has me confused... to the right you can see what clearly looks like a button with a power on/off symbol, however that power button just seems misplaced - looks to me right-handers like me would constantly bump it with their thumb - I have enough trouble with the placement of volume buttons on most phones as it is. Indeed the three pins are mysterious, but it's most likely charging/docking pins, the mysterious thing is the placement... so this phone is meant to be cradled in landscape? For multimedia perhaps? If so, it's the goofy-footed landscape orientation imho - most people turn their phone CCW to landscape for photos/videos in my totally unscientific anecdotal experience
ReplyDelete.... but yes, the gadget lust-o-meter is firmly pointing to 11!
ReplyDeleteYep, its a power button - its the right hand side of the device when held in portrait (the chin is at the bottom, just like their other recent devices). Given that it shouldn't get knocked by the thumb when held in the left hand as is usually the case for right-handers.
ReplyDeleteSome sort of dock connection is a very good thought, although having those placed on the right hand side of the device is unusual.
".... but yes, the gadget lust-o-meter is firmly pointing to 11!"
ReplyDelete...wondering if the double entendre here is intentional?
;p
I hold my device in my right hand and use my thumb to nagivate and type using swype. If the power button is more than halfway up it won't be an issue
ReplyDeleteMore than likely those three things u call buttons will be the docking port.
ReplyDeleteI agree Dara.x :)
ReplyDeleteStill, strange placement on the right hand side of the device...
Who knows with this Big Thing, i dont anticipate the location being a problem if it were to actually be a dock port, it just may not be a very good idea, since electrical contacts dont like oil and moisture contact. Nevertheless all I wanna do is hibernate till the shows up with a price tag, ready for me to sink my cash into the pockets of whichever career has it. arggg simply cant wait
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to this one too Tob4, hoping it arrives before my Galaxy Note so I have time to appreciate it on its own a but before the inevitable comparisons!
ReplyDeleteIn case there's somebody who hasn't heard this already, the Nexus Prime announcement has been put back a week in deference to the death of Steve Jobs, according to a Google/Samsung spokesdroid.
ReplyDeleteYep, too right (I'm about to post the news of week, so if you missed that one you might need to read it to catch up!).
