[At your own risk] Ice Cream Sandwich cravings?

So you saw our live blog coverage of the Galaxy Nexus running the awesome new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) ? Did it leave you craving a tasty treat? While we can't sate your hunger, we can give you some crumbs to help you survive another day.

Check out some of our ideas for how you can get a small taste of ICS lovin' on your device now!

To start off you might like to mimic the brand new Roboto font. If you have a rooted device, or a device that supports flipfonts (SGS,SGSII) then it's easy to get your Roboto on right away.

You can get the Flipfont APK here but many XDA users have reported that it doesn't work without a lot of fiddling about. If you have a kernel that supports Clockwork Mod recovery you can easily flash the CWM Zip from here - bear in mind that this replaces the default fonts so please make a backup before performing this.

If you don't want to overwrite your default font, you can use the TTF Files with Font Changer assuming of course that you have Root access to your device.

  1. Backup!
  2. Install Font Changer onto your device
  3. Download the Zip containing the TTF Fonts
  4. Extract the files in the zip to the .fontchanger folder on your internal SD card
  5. Load font changer, hit Menu > Refresh and the fonts should now be available to long press and set. You will need to individually set the Regular, Italic and Bold Italic versions of the font.
  6. Reboot
  7. Profit??

So changing your font isn't enough right? well there are also some very nice wallpapers that come with the  Galaxy Nexus and we have them here for you.

Fake it till you make it?

Some folks over at XDA have created a Launcher based around the previous leaked images of ICS. While it's not perfect it can do the job of faking ICS in a pinch.

There's a lovely ICS themed Analog Clock available on the Android Market

You can also get icons for the ICS apps here and by using Desktop Visualizer you can assign the icons to your apps for a very ice creamy look.

You can also add on some extras such as the new Music Application

Or a Lockscreen Clock Widget which requires Widget Locker to fully utilise

Last but not least: for Daring Devs who want to try and port the rest of the ICS apps to Gingerbread (or Honeycomb for that matter) check out this system dump of apps from the Galaxy Nexus.
