    I thought i would ask this here since its a NZ website.
    I am going to seattle on friday and this is my plan:
    I am going to buy a Samsung Galaxy s3 from AT&T for 550$ and then get the imei number, txt it to my friend in NZ he buys the code for me off his paypal. I then unlock it and use it in NZ.
    Will this work?

    According to the specs linked and GSMArena http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_i747-4803.php

    That model the Samsung Galaxy SIII I747 supports HSDPA on 850/1900/2100MHz which means it would work on Telecom NZ if it was sim unlocked. It won't fully work on 2Degrees or Vodafone as it does not support HSDPA 900MHz

      I think he means it will only work in areas where Voda/2deg have 2100mHz coverage (and will drop back to 2G everywhere else).

    i talked to a vodafone rep in live chat.
    she said 'It has GSM 900 for calling HSDPA 2100 for data, you should have no issues'
    So i should be fine then?

      Hi Tom, GSM 900MHz means it will still have connectivity for 2G calling and texting, however data will only be 2G so very slow outside of the main residential areas (such as cities) as Vodafone primarily use HSDPA 900MHz in a lot of extended coverage areas.

      Telecom use 850MHz in most areas so the phone would theoretically work flawlessly on that network.

    Ok... so basically:
    -If im in auckland city or any urban area 3g will be fine
    -calliing texting will be fine everywhere
    -mobile internet in the middle of nowhere will be bad
